If you are looking at this game and the title and are feeling a bit confused, don’t worry you aren’t alone. Due to Natsume keeping the rights to the Harvest Moon name when Marvelous decided to have their own American division, Xseed Games, take over North American distribution, the newer titles in the series had to be renamed to Story of Seasons. That also includes any possible remakes/remasters of older games previously known as Harvest Moon. That brings us to today’s reveal during the PC Gaming Show, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town.
Old friends, new look
This remake of the original Game Boy Advance classic, regarded as one of the best in the series, was already announced for the Nintendo Switch by publisher XSEED Games. But today’s news from the PC Gaming Show is brand new information that was previously unknown before today. Originally released in 2003, Friends of Mineral Town the game features the tried and true gameplay loop of farming crops, raising animals, and finding love, and getting married. Even having kids after you get married! What separated this from other entries was how well it handled these different gameplay elements and fine-tuned them to almost perfection. Plus having one of the more lovable casts of characters in the series’ history.
The new Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town will feature all the same gameplay and characters that fans known and love, but has the added option of picking between four different characters, two male and two female. This is all in addition to the graphical overhaul the game is receiving as well. The game will also feature some more modern gameplay additions, but what those are specifically we aren’t sure yet. Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town releases on Steam next month, July 14. The Nintendo Switch version will also release on the same day.
