Staring at the four walls at home can get tiresome really quickly. While you may be stuck in the real world, why not take a journey into a different world with Subnautica: Below Zero? Following its last update, Lost Ship, the Steam Early Access title has now gotten a much more substantial update with Frostbite. Planet 4546B is now even more interesting to explore.
The new Frostbite update makes changes to the planet, while also revamping the story’s beginning with a new intro cinematic thrown in for good measure. Much like the first game, Subnautica: Below Zero begins with a crash landing. Survival after that means overcoming the cold and the alien monsters along the way. Be it on the surface or in the depths of the ocean, there is much to see and to fear. Only by persevering can you uncover more about the Alterra Corporation and your missing sister.
The Glacial Basin biome will also see a makeover. Developer Unknown Worlds is promising more “nooks and crannies” for players to poke around. After all, it is an alien world, and you never know what you might find around the corner.
Subnautica: Below Zero is also all about that survival aspect. Now that cold mechanics are being introduced, players need to be wary when exploring. Get ready to pack even more coffee to keep you warm, and be aware of your surroundings. Weather changes are aplenty, and a snowstorm might just be the last thing you see. Unknown Worlds has also stated that biome polish and other improvements are on the way. Features such as quantum lockers that let you access your storage no matter where you are sound great too.
Perhaps the best addition of all is the ability to throw snowballs. Granted, they will not be killing any aliens, but it sure can distract them. You can even use them as a source of water. Brilliant.
