Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris - Unlocking character classes and EX skills

As you progress through Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris' campaign, you'll be obtaining additional sword skills while mastering the intricacies of chain burst and skill connect combos. But, there's one more factor to consider when building up your characters and preparing for combat -- and that's a character's class. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris features six classes (or Ex Skills) that can be unlocked via your skill tree: Scout, Berserker, Tank, Healer, SP Buffer, and Debuffer. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris - Unlocking character classes First, take a look at the default skill tree with no sword skills or classes unlocked. This is what it would normally look like if you got past the first chapter of Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris without spending a lot of skill points. As you continue to progress, however, you'll obtain more skill points from the following: Leveling up Defeating significantly higher-level enemies Completing trials/challenges from various warrior statues (you can see one example below). These skill points are necessary to unlock not just sword skills, but the remaining combat skills and passives. That's because classes need you to attain certain criteria before they're made available: Unlock all the pre-requisite perks in the skill tree that lead up to the class' node. Complete the specified combat tally (ie. blocks, chain bursts, total healing done, and the like). Interact with a statue that will grant you its blessing (seen below). For the required combat tallies, it seems those that are done by your allies will also count. For instance, if there's a requirement for healing, just make sure your party members are all focused on healing everyone. As for the statues, only one specific statue found in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris' game world will provide you with the unlocking requirement (so we've listed them down below). Anyway, once you've unlocked a class' node via your skill tree, check your skills menu/skill palette and click on the Ex Skill. This will allow you to choose a particular class for your character, including any behaviors/tactics they may end up using during battles. Anyway, here's an example of the skill tree where the character classes are no longer hidden after obtaining the necessary skills. However, some are still not unlocked due to missing certain requirements (ie. combat tallies or statues): Next, here's a close-up of the Scout skill tree which is already unlocked (look at that nifty Firespark skill that lets you do chain bursts on your own): Unlock requirements Now that we're done with the basics, it's time to take a look at the requirements for each class/Ex Skill in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris. Refer to each page below for the class/Ex Skill you wish to unlock: Scout Berserker Tank Healer SP Buffer Debuffer Note: After you've unlocked the classes, you can also find out how to obtain the secret Ex skills for each class. Scout class/Ex skill ATK: Firebolt -> Pierce Weakness -> Mindbreak -> Clear Mind -> Scout node Execute 20 chain bursts. Call to Norlangarth's statue Scout class statue location: Cordea Plains Use the southernmost/entrance area savepoint in Cordea Plains and make your way to the wooden bridge. You should spot the statue in the distance. Jump on top of the rock formation to get near the statue. Keep jumping because you'll eventually hit a harder texture that you can leap from until you reach the top. Note: You might need to boost your FPS a bit. I had a hard time clambering over the rocks due to framerate drops. Interact with it to complete the "Call to Norlangarth's statue" requirement. Berserker class/Ex skill ATK: Firebolt -> Battle Instinct -> Warrior Bloodline -> Essence of the Blade -> Berserker node Execute 100 skill connects. Call to Sothercrois' statue Berserker class statue location: Reind Lakeshore - Fishers' Settlement From the spawn point, look around and you'll see a nearby rock formation. Go ahead and start climbing. The Berserker class statue is just above you, but you'll need to keep moving on the grassy, cliffside path first. Loop around and jump on the rocks. You've now made your way to the top. Go ahead and become a Berserker. Tank class/Ex skill DEF: Way of the Guardian -> Mind's Eye -> Iron Will -> Thorn of the Protector -> Spectral Armor -> Tank node Successfully deflect 100 times. Hint: Go do a personal quest for a character that'll lead to a sparring session/duel. Just deflect their attacks and you'll be done with this in no time. Call to Southercrois' statue Tank class statue location: Warmia Greenbelt - Spira Caverns Fast travel to Spira Caverns in Warmia Greenbelt. Look around and head north. Instead of taking the northwest tunnel that leads to the exit, go west instead. Follow the western tunnel and you'll reach a part of the cavern with sludge monsters and bats. The statue can be found here. Healer class/Ex skill DEF: Way of the Guardian -> Mind's Eye -> Iron Will -> Wisdom of the Prosaic -> Inferno Prayer -> Healer node Heal a total of 100,000 damage. Hint: Just jump off a cliff over and over and let the game's auto/self-healing system do the work for you. Call to Norlangarth's statue (coming soon) Healer class statue location: Lodend Mountains - Rulid Village This is the village where you meet Eugeo, the very beginning of your journey in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris. Head to the eastern tip of the village and you should see a gorge. Follow this pathway as it loops around and you'll see a ravine. Keep moving onward. You'll eventually see a rock formation with vines that you can climb. The statue is here. You can use the rocks on the side to reach it. Interact with the statue to unlock the Healer class/Ex skill. SP Buffer class/Ex skill BUF: Sword Dance -> Howling of the Soldier -> Steel Will -> Soul Extraction -> Soul Resonance -> SP Buffer node Use a total of 50 support skills on allies. Hint: Open your Records menu (aka. AI tactics) and look for someone with the "Buff allies" Arts code (ie. Alice or Asuna). Make sure you have some buff skills unlocked and that the tactic is prioritized. Next, just watch them cast buffs during battles. Alternatively, go to Kirito's Skills menu and assign buffs to your combat skills. Cast them by holding RB + a button on the D-pad. Call to Sothercrois' statue Special/SP Buffer class statue location: Creyst Cove Creyst Cove is one of the zones in Sothercrois (the southern empire). The story doesn't take you there in any of the early chapters in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris. However, you'll be able to visit the area anyway. Just go to Vizeah Valley and fast travel to the Hilly Campgrounds save point in the southwest section. The exit to Creyst Cove is nearby. Once you're in Creyst Cove, keep heading forward until you spot a cave. Once you spot the bullfrogs, follow the cavern's sandy shoal going left. It will loop around and you'll see an exit to your right. This will take you to another cove with a campfire. To the right, however, is a hill. Turn this way and you'll spot the SP Buffer class' statue in the distance. Go ahead and access it to obtain the class unlock. Debuffer class/Ex skill BUF: Sword Dance -> Howling of the Soldier -> Steel Will -> Thorn Artist -> Astral Training -> Debuffer node Apply a total of 75 status effects on various enemies. Hint: I believe these status effects are automatically applied anyway while you're fighting opponents. Examples include "break" or "fatalized." Call to Norlangarth's statue Debuffer class statue location: Rivalier Forest - Waterside Camp Grounds Once you spawn in the fast travel location, look around you and you'll see a rock formation nearby. Start climbing and make your way around it. You'll eventually reach a point that's overlooking the wooden bridge. Look below you and you'll see a ledge. Drop down that ledge and, just a short distance later, you'll see an odd-looking cliff wall. That's because some of these ledges are climbable. You'll eventually spot the statue when you're done with your climb. Interact with it to unlock the Debuffer class/Ex skill. Note: Now that you've unlocked the classes, it's time to find out how you can obtain the secret Ex/class skills for each tree. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is available on Steam.
