Anchurian Air takes off
“Anchurian Air is proud to announce the maiden voyage of the 747 Luxury Liner. The new state-of-the-art luxurious aircraft will offer daily flights from anywhere in the world to the supreme city of the setting sun, Anchuria’s beautiful capital San Bavón.”
“The new government under the benevolent guidance of President for Life Generalísimo Ricardo Miraflores will put the small state of Anchuria on the map of the world. And the world is invited to come and participate. New opportunities have been created for international business. Many markets have been opened for unbound consumerism. The financial prosperity of the new Anchuria will be matched only by its tropical beauty.”
This is the world Angela Burnes finds herself stranded in while doing chores in the quiet penthouse of Gabriel Ortega. The world the player will visit when playing Sunset, currently in production at Tale of Tales. It is 1972. We are in Latin America. A fictitious place, for sure, but one with strong ties to those times, and to the present for those willing to look. A story about silence and intimacy in an ambiance of revolution against seemingly insurmountable forces.
The Anchurian Air website is the first of several releases that will precede the launch of the game. The purpose is to share the fictional world and the backstory of Sunset in formats that are pleasant both to peruse and to create. Book a flight to San Bavón to be kept up-to-date.
Sunset is being developed at Tale of Tales in Belgium by a small team including Auriea Harvey, Michaël Samyn, Austin Wintory (music) and Kris Force (sound). Leigh Alexander and Ste Curran (Agency) are advising on the project direction.
