Telltale’s next major adventure game series, The Wolf Among Us will begin with a first episode later this month. The series has popped up on Steam listing October as a release date (no specific day given, sadly) along with the names of all five episodes.

Those episodes are: Faith, Smoke and Mirrors, A Crooked Mile, In Sheep’s Clothing and Cry Wolf. The pre-purchase price for the full ‘season’ is currently $22.50 USD, a 10% discount from the usual $25.00 USD cost.

The Wolf Among Us is based on the Fables series of graphic novels, but deals with events that take place prior to the first issue. Players will take the role of Bigby Wolf, the Sheriff of Fabletown, whose job it is to keep the other fairytale characters under wraps as they go about their lives in New York. Interestingly, Telltale notes in the features list that “Now, it’s not only WHAT you choose to do that will affect your story, but WHEN you choose to do it,” suggesting that several actions will be time-sensitive in some way.

Don’t worry if you haven’t read any Fables, Telltale says this “gritty, violent and mature thriller” will be a fine introduction to the world where fairytale characters and contemporary life overlap. There are some recommended system requirements listed for the PC, but they’re not too demanding:

    • OS: Windows 7 (it’s not Windows 7 only, that’s just recommended)
    • Processor: Core 2 Duo 2GHz or equivalent
    • Memory: 3 GB RAM
    • Graphics: ATI or NVidia card w/ 1024 MB RAM (Not recommended for Intel integrated graphics)
    • DirectX: Version 9.0c
    • Hard Drive: 2 GB available space
    • Sound Card: Direct X 9.0c sound device
