Below are the announcement screenshots for The Evil Within, a brand new game by Fallout 3 publisher Bethesda and directed by Resident Evil creator, Shinji Mikami. In a video interview with IGN he said “Survival horror has been drifting away from what makes it survival horror. And so I want to bring back survival horror to where it was.”
He is likely referring to the distinct lack of survival horror games around now, with the likes of Resident Evil 6 (a series which he hasn’t been involved with since Resident Evil 4) and Dead Space 3 going down a more action route
Mikami said that the team’s goal is to have players feel that they haven’t played a game as scary as The Evil Within in ages. “Sometimes you have to run away because your ammo is low, and you’re like, ‘die already’ – and you pull off a headshot,”
The Evil Within is currently in development for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and the next generation of consoles, though none have been specified so far other that Playstation 4.
