CD Projekt Red have announced that The Witcher Adventure Game is now in closed beta, with a select group of testers getting access today.
If you’re one of the many who pre-ordered The Witcher 3 on GOG, then you’re in with a chance of getting into the beta today. If not, then don’t worry: it’s also a test of GOG’s optional Galaxy client, so you can navigate over to that site to sign up for future waves of invites.
The Witcher Adventure Game is a PC board game that lets you take control of Geralt, Triss, Yarpen, or Dandelion, and adventure around the map, using each character’s special abilities to give you an edge. Dandelion might not be much of a fighter, but as a charismatic bard he has his own way of dealing with situations. On the other hand, Geralt’s an accomplished monster slayer with the ability to mix combat elixirs. You can work together with the other players, or betray them to increase your own power and glory.
The beta only offers online multiplayer, but the full version will also feature solo play against the AI, as well as hotseat play against people in the same room. The game itself has been designed by Ignacy Trzewiczek – a veteran board game designer, and the mind behind Stronghold and Robinson Crusoe: Adventure on the Cursed Island – and from what I can tell, it looks like it’ll have an actual board game version too, thanks to Fantasy Flight.
