We all know that a new Call of Duty game is coming. Aside from the snack-related leak that gave us the name, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, much of the game’s details remain shrouded in mystery. Even now, there is still no official confirmation of the name. What we do know about Call of Duty 2020, after Activision’s Q2 FY2020 earnings call, is that the game is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software.
The success of both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone has given the publisher a boost. Together with its mobile counterpart, there are hundreds of millions of players currently in this ecosystem.
“Activision will continue to build on its direct digital relationship with this expanded community as it delivers the next premium installment for Call of Duty, which comes from the wholly owned Call of Duty studios Treyarch and Raven Software,” chief operating officer Daniel Alegre explained. “We’re excited for its planned release later this year.”
Both Treyarch and Raven Software have also confirmed the news via Twitter. Call of Duty 2020 remains on track for the year, so they have their work cut out for them.
It’s official. Looking forward to showing you what we’ve been cooking up with @RavenSoftware!

We are excited to announce our partnership with @Treyarch on this year's Call of Duty! Can't wait to show you more!
— Raven Software (@RavenSoftware) August 4, 2020
Treyarch’s part in the rotation of development studios for the first-person shooter is well known. However, for Raven Software, this recognition seems to have come a little late. Considering the fact that the team has been helping on plenty of Call of Duty games as a support studio, it is nice to see them finally getting the time to shine with Call of Duty 2020.
Activision will also likely be exploring a new way of sharing news about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The success of Warzone makes it a viable way to reach an engaged audience.
“Warzone in particular is not only a great game experience, it’s also a great platform for us to share new franchise news and information directly with our community, like we haven’t done before,” Activision president Rob Kostich said.
Perhaps relying on a traditional announcement is no longer in fashion. For fans of the franchise, this will be an exciting new way to find out more about something they love. Unfortunately, no other details were shared regarding Call of Duty 2020. However, we can expect to hear more real soon as we head towards the last quarter of 2020.
