Despite the price, I admit that there’s something marvellously incongruous about shooting zombie strippers by quoting Shakespeare.
The release of The Typing of the Dead: Overkill made me happy. For one thing, it meant that the ridiculous, swear-filled, B-movie love letter The House of the Dead: Overkill was appearing on PC. For another thing, it meant that The Typing of the Dead – a conversion of The House of the Dead 2 that swapped out lightguns for keyboards, and bullets for sentences – hadn’t been forgotten. It’s like Mavis Beacon Teaches Grindhouse, or a game where you have to help a B-movie hero get out cheesy and nonsensical one-liners before killing things.
I’m not quite sure how I feel now, though. Sega have just released “Shakespeare DLC” for the game, which – from what I can tell – does not replace the zombies with the Bard of Avon. No, it just changes the dictionary so that you’re typing quotes from Shakespeare’s works. This would be fair enough if it wasn’t two bloody quid.
If I’m wrong and this adds more than just dictionary phrases, then hey, it might be worth a blast. On the other hand, if this really is just a new set of phrases for the cost of £1.99, then that’s pretty deep into rip-off DLC territory.
