Valve’s DOTA 2 will be shown at GamesCom

Valve’s Defense of the Ancients 2 (DOTA 2) is confirmed for an appearance at GamesCom, along with ‘The International’ – a contest between the 16 finest DotA teams in the world.
The prize for the winning team in this little competition will be an oversized novelty cheque for $1 million USD. Each of the 16 teams will play DOTA 2 through a “group stage” followed by a “double elimination playoff format”, that’ll stretch across all five days of the GamesCom show.
Valve has also confirmed that DOTA 2 will be (‘Valve Time’ permitting) released “later this year”.
Gabe Newell found the time between not making Half Life 2: Episode 3 to add: “The International is the first public DOTA 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing Dota around the world their first look at the new game”.
