Virtual space: Elite Dangerous gets Oculus Rift support

If there was one type of game that lends itself to VR it would be anything where you’re sitting down in a cockpit. The good news for anyone following Frontier’s Elite Dangerous is that they have revealed support for the Oculus Rift.

The Oculus Rift version of the game will be free to all backers of the game. Frontier’s David Braben added:

“We’ve been playing with the Oculus Rift dev kits and are excited about the potential – just glancing around your cockpit or being totally immersed in a space battle. Many of our backers have made it clear that they would like Oculus Rift support – and so do we! We’re very pleased with the results so far.”

With development kits being the only way to experience the Oculus, consumers will have to wait a while. That’s not a problem though as Elite: Dangerous isn’t out until next year.
