StarCraft 2 producer Tim Morten has stated that Warcraft 4 and StarCraft 3 could happen.
Speaking to IGN, Morten said that the next expansion, which is due out soon, didn’t mean it was the end of Starcraft but “the end of this story for these characters.”
Discussing the team’s future projects once this trilogy of StarCraft 2 titles is complete he said, “It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next.
“There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible.”
Blizzard fans have been wondering for some time whether there would be a new Warcraft RTS. Warcraft 3 was released way back in 2002 so it’s long overdue.
Warcraft 3 wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it did culminate in an enthusiastic community who created fantastic mods and maps for the game – including spawning DOTA – and was followed up with the Frozen Throne expansion in 2003.
With another WoW expansion having just been announced and mutterings of another Diablo title, a new Warcraft RTS would seem a logical move for Blizzard and their RTS team.
