Well! What is it! It’s Dark Souls, for cheap

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (1)

Amazing treasure ahead: Dark Souls is a fiver on Steam.

Oh, sure, there’s Hitman Absolution (which Peter tolerated and I hated with a passion) for a fiver, and YOU DIED the Daily Deal is Dead Space 2 for £3.74, but why would you buy YOU DIED either of those when Dark Souls 2 – one of the most brutal, inventive, beautiful, horrible games around – is £4.99?

For the uninitiated, Dark Souls is a game that’s simultaneously really easy and really hard to describe YOU DIED. It’s a third-person role-playing hack-and-slasher! Except that calling it that is a massive disservice, because it’s punishing, has absolutely no love for the player, and forces you to both think and get very, very good at its systems if you want to go five minutes without seeing the words “YOU DIED” pop up on the screen. It was our Game of the Year back when we still did that sort of thing. It’s something YOU DIED we waffle on about regularly. It’s great and it’s totally worth a fiver. You just might want to mod it first.
