New trailer answers the question to ‘What the heck is Biomutant, anyway?’

Lil' bit of everything.
What Is Biomutant

Have you found yourself wondering what the heck Biomutant is all about? The action RPG’s Art and Creative Director Stefan Ljungqvist has provided the answer. In a new trailer, Ljungqvist discussed the game’s mechanics and its premise, as well as some of its inspirations. Biomutant will launch next week for PC on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Origin.

According to the press release, Biomutant is “an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG” that incorporates “martial art styled combat.” In the trailer, Ljungqvist elaborated that the game bears resemblance to Ratchet & Clank, Devil May Cry, and the Batman: Arkham games. However, “in terms of structure,” Biomutant resembles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. So, it seems the game has a little bit of everything.

The Biomutant trailer went on to showcase the gameplay, where players can genetically mutate their characters to unlock different abilities. Some mutations include “telekinesis, levitation, and more.” Additionally, Ljungqvist provided insight on crafting weapons, including revolvers and shotguns. Players can modify weapons to feature special upgrades, like a chainsaw. That’s an interesting gun.

As for the story, Biomutant follows a group of Tribes in a “New World” that will soon come to an end. The land’s source of life, a tree, is dying, and it’s up to players to save the Tribes. Player choices affect the story’s outcome.

Biomutant DLC

This was not the first glimpse at Biomutant that publisher THQ Nordic has shared. Late last month, the studio offered a preview trailer to show off the game’s map, filled with some pretty impressive visuals. The team also previously revealed a Biomutant DLC, called Mercenary, though the expansion is only available to those who pre-order the base game. The DLC includes a new skill, a Samurai sword, and different blades.
