What is Lucky Hit in Diablo 4?

Diablo 4 has a lot of new status effects, buffs, and debuffs, and Lucky Hit is one of them. Whether you’re a new player in Diablo 4 or returning, it’s important to know what Lucky Hit is when creating the best builds. Here is what Lucky Hit is in Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 Lucky Hit, explained

Lucky Hit is a new effect in Diablo 4 that determines the chance of activating a Lucky Hit effect. Lucky Hit is not the same as Critical Strike Chance — Critical Strike Chance determines the chance of activating one hit of Critical Strike Damage.

Lucky Hit is found on items such as weapons and armor. For example, a leg armor might have a Lucky Hit skill that has a 30% chance to reduce the cooldown of one of your skills. Remember, Lucky Hit doesn’t inherently do anything, it just determines the chance of activating another specific skill you have through armor, amulets, weapons, or rings.

How does Lucky Hit work in Diablo 4?

Here’s where it gets tricky — in order for you to successfully get a Lucky Hit, you need to pass two checks: your Lucky Hit percentage and the specific Lucky Hit skill percentages.

Your Lucky Hit percentage goes up as you level up and unlock specific passive abilities that raise Lucky Hit. However, each Lucky Hit skill has a percentage to it as well.

In the example above, let’s say you have 10% Lucky Hit as your base stat. Then, you have a Lucky Hit skill that has a 30% chance to reduce a cooldown. The final Lucky Hit chance is 3%, which we get from taking 30% of the 10% or vice versa.

The math can get complicated quickly, but just know that to calculate your true Lucky Hit chance, you need to look at both the percentages and divide them.

At first, Lucky Hit seems like a new broken mechanic, but in the end, Lucky Hit might be something you completely ignore. For instance, if you are building the best early game Druid, I recommend ignoring Lucky Hit all together to focus on more powerful synergies. That said, you can focus on Lucky Hit to create a powerful build, it just takes a lot more preparation.
