The Witcher 3 developers, CD Projekt have revealed that porting the game to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 cannot be done.
“It’s impossible,” said Marcin Iwinski of CD Projekt. “It would have to be a different game – a smaller game, not an open-world game, or with terrible loading times, with sacrifices in graphics.”
The second Witcher game, Assassins of Kings was released on the Xbox 360. When asked if it might be released on the PlayStation 3, Iwinski said:
“We definitely would have loved to, but
The Witcher 2 on PC was so big that making it work on Xbox 360 took us a year…The Xbox 360 was a more powerful and easier-to-code-on platform than PS3, so that would have taken us another year or year-and-a-half.”
The Highly anticipated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime in 2014.
