Shadowlands, the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft that sees players travel into the afterlife, is charging full steam ahead with development. The alpha began several months ago, and we’ve learned new information from both official reveals and data mines. On June 9, we’ll get a deeper glance into the Shadowlands during a livestream with executive producer John Hight and game director Ion Hazzikostas.

What’s next for WoW: Shadowlands

The latest bomb that Blizzard dropped was the addition of playable High Elves for both factions. Technically still part of the Blood Elves and Void Elves, both races will gain customization options that see their skin and eye colors resemble that of High Elves. Blizzard has stubbornly kept this from World of Warcraft players for years. But now, Shadowlands will let particularly those in the Alliance give their Void Elf a healthy skin color.

So what else can Blizzard reveal for WoW: Shadowlands? Many seem to believe that right about now should mark the time where the alpha shifts into the beta. That would mean more access for many more players and the opening of more features. A release date is also part of widespread speculation, with Q4 2020 being the only indicator we have right now.

Thus far, we’ve also only seen two out of the four leveling zones. Maldraxxus and Ardenweald are still to come, as well as the Maw for end game content. Blizzard has stayed mum on what exactly it’ll show, but the alpha has only scratched the surface of what will come in Shadowlands.

What Blizzard did say, though, is that we’ll get a look at “some of the newest content in development.” Whether that’s a new surprise or something we’ve already speculated on remains to be seen. However, since then, some things have progressed in the opposite way of what Hazzikostas stated as well. So we’ll have to wait and see.
