People often meet in online games, and it’s not usually a big deal beyond the normal concerns over real identities and motives, but in this case, Morgan Douglas Jones, 27, began an online relationship with someone who was just 14. What’s more, after their in-game romance, he drove across America last year, as reported on Worldofwar.net at the time, to meet her and take her away camping, without her parent’s knowledge.

Police began a wide-scale search for the girl as the couple consummated their relationship in a Washington camp site, before finally being tracked down. He was arrested and locked up without bail pending the trial and she was given counselling.

News has emerged that on Tuesday, Jones, now 28, was sentenced to nine years in jail on a reduced charge of “travel for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct”. On release from prison, he will be supervised for a further 50 years.
