WoW Players Returning from Age of Conan Says Blizz

World of Warcraft players are returning to the game following an exodus to Age of Conan says Blizzard President Mike Morhaime.During the Activision Blizzard earnings call yesterday, Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime highlighted the impact Funcom’s Age of Conan has had on the hugely popular MMO as reported on Edge. According to Morhaime, Blizzard estimate that that 40% of all players who left World of Warcraft for Age of Conan are now returning to the highly addictive World of Warcraft. We have no idea how many players actually left WoW for AoC, but we do think it may have been a reasonably significant number. Morhaime says “Age of Conan released with some initial success a couple of months ago, and we did see some of our players leave to try the game. However,we’ve seen about 40 percent of those players return to World ofWarcraft.”When a new MMO launches, players eagerly jump into the game hoping it will be the next best thing, it happens time and time again. Funcom has probably had the most successful MMO launch in recent years so Age of Conan can be considered decent competition but it may not have the mass market appeal of Blizzard’s title.
