Gamasutra contacted NPD to find out exactly how many of the units had sold in the US after news that The Sims 3 sold over 800,000 copies in the first month. The figure of 8.6 million includes sales of the original game plus the two expansions.

Obviously this doesn’t include European or Asian sales, but it shows that a fair amount of people have moved on from WoW. The last total number of subscribers was 11.5 million, which was announced back at the start of the year. It will be interesting to see where this figure is now. Has the constant influx of new players finally dropped off?
