Old School Runescape Varlamore: What are ‘Hunter’s Rumours’ and how they work

There have been whispers of a creature nearby.

The Varlamore expansion for Old School Runescape has brought new content for longtime fans to enjoy. One of the greatest additions is Hunter’s Rumours of the Hunter’s Guild, a new side activity that is more complex than it initially seems.

Old School Runescape: Hunter’s Rumours, explained

Hunter’s Rumours is a new side activity that any player who has reached level 46 Hunter can enjoy. According to the official Old School Runescape website, it becomes available “outside Civitas Illa Fortis, in the heart of the Avium Savannah.”

Your objective during a Hunter’s Rumour is to track down and hunt a specific creature. The creature you are tasked to hunt down depends on the Rumour you select. It can be a creature you already encountered on your journey or one entirely new to the Varlamore expansion.

I’d say that Hunter’s Rumours are similar to the Slayer tasks and Farming Contracts that have been in Old School Runescape for a while, but some unique features make them different.

For example, here are some key points you must know about Hunter’s Rumours:

  • You can only have one Rumour active at a time.
  • Rumours have a level requirement.
  • If you don’t like your current Rumour, simply speak to another Hunter at the bar.
  • Rumours range from Tier 1 with 46 Hunter to Tier 4 at 91 Hunter.

After selecting the Rumour that interests you, it’s time to set off and track down the creature. Your main objective is to grab a rare creature part from the animal you are hunting and give it to the Hunter who provided you with the Rumour.

Hunter’s Rumours rewards

Jagex makes it clear that completing a Hunter Rumour will result in various rewards, making them worth your effort and time. Below are all the known rewards you can receive when completing a Hunter’s Rumour in Old School Runescape

  • Bonus XP
  • Loot Sack
  • Meats, Furs, Bones
  • Varlamore-specific items
  • Quetzel Whistle Charges
  • Your own Quetzel Pet
  • Hunter Skilling Outfit

I recommend the new Hunter Skilling Outfit, as it provides the player with a +2.5% catch rate and a 5% increased chance to obtain a Rare Creature Part. In other words, it can greatly increase the player’s chances of doing well when completing a Hunter’s Rumour objective.
