Sherlock Holmes Chapter One — The Gilded Cage and statue puzzle

There's a Shattered Memory in Sherlock's bedroom in Stonewood Manor. After solving it, you'll learn that they had a family friend who happens to live in Cordona. This fella, Theodore Gilden, had a rather odd fascination with elephants. Here's our Sherlock Holmes Chapter One guide to help you with The Gilded Cage investigation, your search for the elephant, the statue puzzle, and the identity of the killer. How to solve The Gilded Cage investigation in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One Your only clue at the start of The Gilded Cage in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is that the old family friend has a manor nearby and that he owns a hot air balloon. Well, simply head outside and follow the street leading down. You should see the balloon in the distance. From here, you'll be engaged in a multi-stage investigation that takes you to several zones in Cordona: Part 1: The Yard - This part also discusses one of Jon's challenges. Part 2: The Manor Part 3: The Yacht Club and Workshop Part 4: The Archaeological Dig Site - This part also discusses the statue puzzle. Part 5: Finding Goliath and Conclusions Sherlock Holmes Chapter One - The Gilded Cage (The Yard) Let's talk about the Gilden Manor Yard, the first area in The Gilded Cage investigation in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Investigating the crime scene Oops! It looks like Theodore Gilden is dead, trampled by his elephant Goliath. But, given that this is a Sherlock Holmes story that we're dealing with, then nothing is ever as straightforward. Go ahead and check for clues, such as the marks on the body, the post with the balloon, the dolls, as well as as the elephant's enclosure. Likewise, you should check the narrow passageway to see a wooden fence that's been destroyed. You can find a small knife here, along with a cracked indentation on the left-hand side. After finding all the clues, you can reconstruct the crime scene. From the elephant's pen to the exit: The elephant had its trunk wrapped around Gilden. It carried Gilden's lifeless body to the middle of the yard. An unknown individual ran away from the yard. Following Goliath and Jon's Challenge: Elephant's Life Talk to the witnesses milling on the street and they'll tell you that the elephant ran off toward Greek Bridge. Activate Concentration and follow the trail. It will lead you to a stream in the forest. Check the robe here, too. As for Jon's challenge, he wants you to look for a newspaper article about Goliath the elephant. Go to Cordona Chronicles and check the archives: Evidence - Elephant's Life Period - 1870 to 1879 People - Journalists Section - Front page All right, let's go to the next part of our guide for The Gilded Cage. We'll head inside Gilden Manor to talk to Imogen. Sherlock Holmes Chapter One - The Gilded Cage (The Manor) Let's talk about the interior of the manor where we'll meet Imogen Gilden as part of The Gilded Cage investigation in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Next up, you should be able to enter Gilden Manor (try to dress like a cop if necessary). In one of the rooms on the second floor, you'll find Theodore's daughter Imogen. There are a lot of clues for us to find not just in her room, but also in her father's bedroom (also on the second floor). These include the Ivory Baths map (you need to take a photo of this with Sherlock's camera), various books and letters, the finger prosthetic, and the perfume bottle that smells like it's made to attract elephants (yikes!). Jon's Challenge: Bazookaeology Trilogy You'll find a book about "False Idols" in Imogen's bedroom. This is part of the Bazookaeology Trilogy, a set of bawdy novels that Jon wants you to look for. You'll get the other two in the next areas. Speaking of which... Where to go next? Talk to Imogen once more and provide evidence. The important ones are her photo, the letter from her lover, and the map of the Ivory Baths. We'll then have a couple of options which you can complete in any order: We can travel to the Salacia Yacht Club to meet Imogen's lover, Paul Perks. Or we can make our way to the Archaeological Dig Site to meet Theodore Gilden's old business partner, Arthur Swift. Sherlock Holmes Chapter One - The Gilded Cage (The Yacht Club and Workshop) Let's talk about the Workshop where we'll meet Paul Perks as part of The Gilded Cage investigation in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Finding the Workshop The Salacia Yacht Club is in southern Grand Saray. Talk to one of the upper-class nobles here to learn that Paul Perks, Imogen's lover, didn't show up for a contest. Go to the docks and enter the workshop. Inside, you'll find important clues. These include: Whirlpool - The name of Paul's boat. The storage room - It has a foghorn and another book that's part of the Bazookaeology Trilogy. A hidden key - With Yacht Club Workshop selected as evidence, you can reveal a hidden key in the notice board with the name of champions. Paul's office - The key opens Paul's office. Inside, you'll find bloody rags, a letter with a threat, a box of darts laced with chemicals, and canned food with drugs inside. Meeting Paul Perks Paul Perks shows up once you leave his office. While constructing his character profile, Sherlock notices that Paul is actually a woman who's been disguised a man. It seems that Theodore Gilden, after finding out his daughter's relationship, threatened to ruin Paul's career. A group of thugs will also arrive and you'll need to fight them. Once they've been taken out, you can talk to Paul and present evidence. He'll give you answers, but we still need to learn more. Next, we'll make our way to the Archaeological Dig Site to talk to Arthur Swift. If you've already done that, then it's time for us to lure the elephant and conclude our investigation. Sherlock Holmes Chapter One - The Gilded Cage (Archaeological Dig Site) Let's talk about the Archaeological Dig Site where we talk to Arthur Swift and solve a statue puzzle as part of The Gilded Cage investigation in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Finding the Archaeological Dig Site First, go to Cordona City Hall and check the archives. Use the following: Evidence - Ivory Baths Construction Plan Subjects - Businesses Registry - Legal documents Districts - Old City You'll be given information about its location (the area is in the northern section of the Old City). Once you arrive, you can eavesdrop on people who are looking for work. Choose the following tidbits: Pro-British Neck scar Old City marketplace Next, go to the Old City Market at the southwestern section of this zone. You'll find the Turkish foreman who's looking for additional workers. He won't talk to you unless you've changed your disguise (i.e., you need to have a high reputation with the miners/working-class based on your outfit). If you meet this requirement, you'll be able to pass through the gateway that takes you to the dig site. Meeting Arthur Swift Do a character profile of Arthur Swift, then explore the dig site. It seems that Arthur and his group are searching for the tomb of a Roman legate. You'll find some important clues: Arthur's tent - Several documents, a map, and some cloth dummies next to crates (remember this spot). Antiques tent - In front of the site where half a dozen workers are, you'll find another book that's part of the Bazookaeology Trilogy. Solving the statue puzzle To solve the statue puzzle in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, you have to check out several crucial hints first. For instance, there are documents pertaining to the statues (i.e., "beware the one who disturbs his sleep" note). Likewise, there's a fragment of a statue along the beach. Next, eavesdrop on a conversation among the workers. Choose the following: Tilted pedestal Lion helmet Kicked statue Closest to the beach With these clues, it's time to reconstruct the statue puzzle in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Assuming you're facing north, this is what the display should look like (you can also see this in an image below): Top - Woman facing east; has a sword. Right - Lion-headed figure facing south; has a sword. Bottom - Woman with vines facing west. Left - Man with shield facing north. If you do it correctly, Sherlock will say that he's discovered where the legate's tomb is. Simply walk down the path to the beach and a cutscene will automatically trigger. Run back to Arthur's tent and examine the objects there. You'll find a few documents, as well as a box with chemical-laced darts. Next, we'll make our way to the Boat Workshop to speak to Paul Perks. If you've already done that, then it's time for us to lure Goliath and conclude our investigation. Sherlock Holmes Chapter One - The Gilded Cage (Finding Goliath and Conclusions) Let's talk about how we can find Goliath the elephant so we can conclude The Gilded Cage investigation in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Here's Goliath To find Goliath, we need to gather stuff that can lure it. Here's what we need: Foghorn - You can find this in the storage room in Paul Perks' Workshop. Fabric - You can find this in Arthur Swift's tent next to the cloth dummies. You have to go to Mrs. Nini's Atelier, the old lady from the Master of Disguise quest, and she'll turn the fabric into an elephant balloon. Pheromones - If you already discovered Theodore's "perfume" in his room, then you can check it via your casebook. Do a chemical analysis and follow the solution in the image below. With our preparations complete, it's time to head to Greek Bridge. Use various mating calls with the foghorn until Goliath shows up. Go back to the yard of Gilden Manor and check on the elephant. Look at its cuts, tusks, and the dart on its body. Hmm, remember those darts that you found in Paul's office and Arthur's tent? It's possible that Goliath trampled his owner, Theodore Gilden, because he went berserk from the dart's chemicals. Mind Palace: Making our conclusion Check the Mind Palace panel and combine your findings. There are several suspects and possible outcomes here: Paul Perks is the killer - Maybe Paul finally had enough of Theodore Gilden's threats? Arthur Swift is the killer - He wanted to continue his archeological study, but his old business partner would have none of it. Could he have resorted to murder? Goliath is the killer - We all know that Goliath did kill his owner. But, is there more to this than meets the eye? If you accuse Paul or Arthur of drugging Goliath and causing the rampage, then you have an opportunity to see them arrested. Alternatively, you can blame Goliath which causes the animal to get executed. If you don't want to accuse either Paul or Arthur, then you can talk to Imogen directly. You'll either blame Goliath or protect the animal's well-being. Anyway, that does it for The Gilded Cage investigation in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Our next goal is to go back to Stonewood Manor.
