How to dodge and avoid attacks in Palworld

How to evade attacks like a pro

Palworld offers players a simple but serviceable tutorial that shows off the basics. That said, it does miss a few things. If you’ve watched any Palworld streams, you may notice their player character moving differently than you do. If you’re wondering how to dodge and avoid attacks in Palworld, let me show you how.

How to dodge in Palworld

Many aggressive Pals have ranged attacks you can’t avoid just by running. You’ll have an easier time if you dodge instead by pressing Left CTRL (B/Circle on Controller)

This command performs an evasive roll. The dodge has good range and can be the difference between getting behind cover and taking a hit. Dodging can be done in any direction with both offensive and defensive applications.

You can use the dodge as often as you like, but it does consume Stamina. If you deplete the gauge, you can’t dodge or jump until it’s fully replenished. Combine your dodging with the Grapple Hook and a solid armor set, and you’re ready for the worst that Palworld can throw at you.

If you aim your weapon by holding the right mouse button (Right Trigger/R2 on Controller) and then dodge to either side or backward, you’ll do a flip instead. This stylish maneuver covers plenty of ground; remember that you’ll roll if you perform it while moving forward.

Dodging may not come into play all that much during regular gameplay, but it’s beneficial in the first Tower.

If the first boss has been causing you grief, summon your strongest Pal, focus on dodging and playing around the pillars, and see if your luck changes.

Should I dodge if I use a melee weapon?

At the time of writing, combat in Palworld is heavily skewed towards ranged combat. If you’re up close, you’ll likely have mixed results with dodging as many Pal attacks hit a large area.
