There are two ways to get discounts at shops in Dragon’s Dogma 2: completing a quest for a merchant or gifting them an item they like. The former is very restrictive, considering there are only a few quests involving merchants in the game, so the best way to get discounts is through giving gifts.

It’s important to note that the gift cannot be any item in your inventory. Instead, the merchant has to like and be happy with the gift. You can tell the merchant likes your gift if they seem joyful or start blushing. Some gifts that have worked for me include Wakestone Shards, Misshapen Eye, and Jasper.

Keep in mind that not all merchants will give a discount after receiving one gift. Sometimes it can take the merchant up to three gifts to finally offer you a discount. For example, when I handed over three Wakestone Shards to Bodas in Batahl, he finally offered me a 5% discount on his entire inventory. This discount may increase as I offer more gifts, but that hasn’t been determined.

How to give a gift to a merchant in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Giving a gift is as easy as interacting with the merchant and selecting the option. Instead of entering the shop or pressing sell, you will notice that it says “Give Gift” at the bottom of the screen. Press the corresponding button to enter the Gift Menu and select the gift you want to hand over.

How long do discounts last in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

At the time of writing, it’s hard to determine how long discounts last at stores or whether they are permanent.

However, I did an in-game test to see how long discounts last. I got the 5% discount mentioned earlier, slept for five in-game days, and the discount was still active. So it’s clear that the discounts last a long time, so you don’t have to rush and buy everything in stock immediately.
