Orchestra is an incredibly valuable skill in Star Ocean: The Second Story R for players who want to get into the game’s crafting. Here’s everything you need to know about unlocking and using this ability in the game.
Unlocking Orchestra in Star Ocean: The Second Story R
Orchestra is a Super Specialty in Star Ocean: The Second Story R. And that means you need to put in a fair amount of work to get it. Thankfully it’s just unlocking any other Super Specialty in basic terms, so be sure to check out our guide on these abilities to get the gist of how this system works.
To unlock Orchestra, you’ll need to have each party member rank up in the Music and Art specialties. I leveled these up for Rena, Claude, and Celine pretty evenly and Orchestra unlocked when each character was around level 4 in Art and Music. If you still haven’t unlocked Orchestra by that point just keep leveling these specialties up until you meet the requirement. Of course, to use Orchestra there’s still some work we need to do.
How to use Orchestra
You may notice that Orchestra has another requirement which is that you need four or more instruments. So you’ll need to wait until you have a full four-member party and an instrument for each of them to play before you can use Orchestra.

Once you’ve finally got everything ready you can make the most of Orchestra’s abilities. When used, Orchestra increases the chances of success when making new items through Crafting, customization, Alchemy, and any other Specialty that creates an item. It also has a chance to make the process free and not cost you any items in the process. It also increases the chance that a character’s secret talent may be revealed. So all in all, Orchestra is an excellent ability to increase the odds of making very good gear.
