Fans of Prince of Persia have had a rough time over the last decade, and it’s about to get worse. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been indefinitely delayed. This was suspected after retailers began delisting pre-orders for the title, as well as allegedly warning customers that their orders will not arrive.
In a statement to IGN, Ubisoft confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is “no longer targeting a FY23 release.” In other terms, we won’t be seeing the game until after September 2023 at the very least. It’s not looking good for the remake, but the extra time may give Ubisoft the chance to correct its development.
It’s not looking good for Prince of Persia
For those keeping score, this is not the first delay to hit Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. It was first announced in September 2020, with an expected release date of January 2021. However, development issues caused the release date to be moved to March 2021. And then an update in October 2021 reassured fans that the game was still coming.
The problems don’t end there, though, considering Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has also switched development teams amid its delays. Originally, Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai were working together to develop the title. But last month, Ubisoft confirmed that development was instead taking place at Ubisoft Montreal moving forward. It’s safe to say that no matter how you look at it, development hasn’t gone smoothly for the game.
There’s no telling when we can expect to see Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake after this delay. However, fans of the series should remain optimistic about the remake. After all, the fact that Ubisoft has decided to push onwards with its development is a good thing. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what becomes of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
