Destiny 2 shiny weapon drop rates and farming guide

These guns look good and shoot even better.

Even with its huge focus on the never-ending chase for loot, the weapon hunt has gotten a bit stale in Destiny 2 over the last decade of expansions and seasonal content. That’s where the new “shiny” BRAVE weapons introduced in the free Into the Light update come in.

With The Final Shape delayed until June, Bungie has released Into the Light, a free Destiny 2 content drop that adds a horde mode called Onslaught to the game. Onslaught has one of the most unique loot pools in series history, reprising several fan-favorite weapons from the game’s storied history as a part of the BRAVE arsenal with new perks and appearances. For the first time ever, these weapons have the chance to drop as a “shiny” version of themselves with a unique appearance and more perks options than their standard counterparts.

Destiny 2 Masterwork BRAVE Gun Drop Rates

Since the BRAVE arsenal features all-time greats like The Recluse and Succession that Guardians would chase regardless, the shiny ornament is just the cherry on top of the loot chase. Having four perk options on a shiny variant instead of the standard two makes it much easier to get a good roll on those weapons, too.

The drop rate for shiny BRAVE weapons is surprisingly low, however. While you can get guaranteed BRAVE ornament drops from quests given by Shaxx in the Hall of Champions, you’re left at the mercy of RNG after that.

Bungie has not released the official drop rates for shiny weapons in Destiny 2, but based on community stories and our own experience grinding the Onslaught mode, it looks like you’ll get one shiny BRAVE weapon per 50 waves of Onslaught on average. You’ll have a better shot of getting one on higher difficulties since there are more chances for loot to drop, but the drop rates themselves don’t get any better.

How to Farm Shiny BRAVE Weapons in Destiny 2

While shiny hunters in Pokemon games have several ways to raise the chances of encountering rare variants in their games, Destiny players are out of luck on this one. There is no way to increase the drop rate of limited edition BRAVE weapons in Destiny 2.

To make the odds better for yourself, however, you can get a fireteam together and grind the Legend version of Onslaught which gives you double the chests if you can survive harder encounters. Also, make sure to attune to the specific weapon that you’re chasing. After completing a weapon quest from Arcite 99-40 in the Hall of Champions, you can attune to that weapon and get a 50% increased chance of it dropping from Onslaught.

If you’re after a shiny Recluse with god roll perks, for example, you’ll need to complete the Recluse Endangerment quest by rapidly defeating enemies with submachine guns. Then, you can visit the corresponding statue in the Hall of Heroes to boost your Recluse drop rate. Attunement combined with the number of chests you get in Legend Onslaught will greatly increase your chance of finding your favorite gun in its limited edition form.
