Company of Heroes 2 aiming for “as low as possible” PC specs

PC gaming is great. It’s diverse, it’s high quality and – contrary to what some believe – it’s incredibly healthy and full of players.

But it’s not perfect. One of the biggest drawbacks is compatibility issues. Will my graphics card work with this game new? Do I have enough RAM? I don’t have a quad-core CPU, does that mean I’m now unable of playing anything released this year?

Relic Entertainment, developers of the upcoming Company of Heroes 2, seem to recognise the problem. As such, they’re aiming “as low as possible” PC specs. However, as Company of Heroes 2 game director Quinn Duffy explains, they also have to be careful not to “undersell” the game.

“Our goal is to get as low as possible. We don’t have our PC specs yet, but we want to be able to run on a broad range of systems,” Duffy tellsus.

“Because so much of our gameplay is based on the visual components, we don’t want to undersell the product. We don’t want to get to a point where we say “this is the min spec” but it’s the crappiest looking game out there.

“Y’know, min spec numbers are usually absolute garbage; we want a good looking game on a min spec machine. Then on the newer machines with DX11 it’s going to look stunning, it’s going to be amazing.”

There’s no word yet on when Relic will be announcing the PC specs, but we’ll keep you updated as and when they become available.

In the meantime, you can read our latest Company of Heroes 2 preview in which we look at how weather will act as a second enemy.
