How to reach the floating Ring Ruin in Kakariko Village in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

Why can't I go to the floating Ring Ruin in TOTK?

If you have discovered Kakariko Village in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and have tried to reach the floating Ring Ruin, you’ve probably gotten stopped by Calip, a member of the survey crew. Whether you are just curious or trying to complete the “A Trip through History” Side Quest, here is how to reach the floating Ring ruin in Kakariko Village in TOTK.

Tears of the Kingdom: How to reach the floating Ring Ruin, explained

In Tears of the Kingdom, the floating Ring Ruin is located just north of Kakariko Village and is surrounded by a small fence of red flags. In the front, you’ll find Calip who is a strict survey member who won’t let you near the floating Ring Ruin. While you can easily explore the Ring Ruins scattered around Kakariko Village, the one you can’t access is the one that is floating.

If you step over the fence of red flags, you’ll be stopped and forced back to where Calip is. I even tried flying onto the floating Ring Ruin and the second I made contact, Calip yelled at me and gave me the typical scolding.

Long story short, you can’t access the floating Ring Ruin. At least not yet. To get access to the floating Ring Ruin, you need the “Secret of the Ring Ruins” quest which is only unlocked after you’ve started the “Find the Fifth Sage” quest and finished the “Regional Phenomena” quest which requires you to check out four different regions of Hyrule.

Once you are at that point in the story, you can reach the floating Ring Ruins by simply climbing up to them. When you are underneath the floating Ring Ruin, you’ll be able to use Ascend to go inside it and reach the Zonai slab. If you aren’t that far, you can work on finding Hylian rice, fresh milk, and wild greens for the Gloom-Borne Illness quest or work on unlocking the Camera ability because you’ll need it for this quest later.
