All 6 Diablo Season of the Malignant Unique Items and how to get them

The rarest treasure in Sanctuary.

Uniques are among the rarest, most coveted items in Diablo 4. Some Uniques are so game-changing they are widely considered the ‘best in slot’ equipment for multiple classes. If you’ve seen players with a pool of ice around their feet, you’ve got the Unique Penitent Greaves boots to thank for that. With the arrival of Season 1, six additional Uniques have entered the loot pool. If the thought of new toys has awakened the loot goblin inside you, let me show you all 6 Diablo Season of the Malignant Unique Items and how to get them.

The Season of the Malignant has added several new Uniques into the game. There’s a Unique for each class, but let’s start with the one that every player can shoot for.

Ahavarian Spear of Lycander (Unique Staff)

This Staff is the rarest new Unique Item, limited to World Tier 4 only. The Ahavarian Spear of Lycander grants a random Shrine Buff for 10-20 seconds after killing an Elite enemy.

Shrines are always helpful in Nightmare Dungeons, but the most exciting part about this effect is the speed buff. Noone enjoys backtracking, so this Staff may take the sting out of that. The Developers have stated that the Ahavarian Spear of Lycander is an ‘extremely rare drop,’ so obtaining one may become a season-long endeavor.

Azurewrath (Unique Sword) – Barbarian

On Lucky Hit, Core Skills have up to 20% chance to Freeze enemies for 3 seconds and deal 0.75-1.5 Cold damage. Freeze may become a desirable stat to shoot for with the nerfs to both Critical Hits and Vulnerable. Even if Azurewrath remains a niche weapon, Freeze is a solid Crowd Control ability.

The Cold damage doesn’t look like much, but the Developers have stated that the amount scales with Item Power.

Fleshrender (Unique One-Handed Mace) – Druid

Debilitating Roar and Blood Howl deal 0.5-1.0 damage to Nearby Poisoned enemies. Just like with Azurewrath, those damage numbers scale with Item Power. Fleshrender could pair well with the Aspect of the Changeling’s Debt.

Lidless Wall (Unique Shield) – Necromancer

On Lucky Hit – While you have an active Bone Storm, hitting an enemy outside of a Bone Storm has up to a 5-25% chance to spawn an additional Bone Storm at their location. Each of your active Sacrifice bonuses increases the chance by 25% and the total number of additional Bone Storms you can have by +1.

Minion builds are fun but traditionally don’t perform as well as those that sacrifice them for buffs. The Lidless Wall certainly isn’t going to change that. Bone Storm is already a powerful skill in builds like Bonespear and Infinimist.

Eaglehorn (Unique Bow) – Rogue

Penetrating Shot has a 30-80% chance to fire an arrow that bounces off the scenery. Hitting enemies from behind with Penetrating Shot will make them Vulnerable for 3 seconds.

The Eaglehorn has great unique effects, but Crossbows overshadow bows thanks to their Vulnerable damage, which is incredibly strong. Vulnerability is nerfed in Season of the Malignant, which may make Bows a more attractive option.

The Oculus (Unique Wand) – Sorcerer

Gain the effect of the Teleport Enchantment for free. When you Evade using Teleport Enchantment, you are taken to a random location.

The scary part of this Unique effect is that you’re teleported to a ‘random’ location. Sorcerers are known to be rather squishy, so without the ability to control where you go, this may be a hard sell for end-game content.

How to get Uniques in Diablo 4

Uniques have a low drop rate and can’t be ‘target farmed’ through specific events. Helltides are substantially harder in the Season of the Malignant but remain a solid place to obtain Uniques. Opening the Mystery Chest in Helltides is a superb way to earn Legendaries and the chance of a Unique. If you don’t know about the Mystery Chests, check out our guide.

The next best activity for Uniques is Nightmare Dungeons. These are worth running to level up your Glyphs, and you can find decent gear. Clearing these Dungeons is a great way to farm for equipment, so be fussy with your Nightmare Sigils. Don’t be afraid to discard Sigils with bad modifiers and focus on Dungeons you can clear quickly.
