They don’t exactly pinpoint where to start your investigation, but after asking around the Temple, you can slowly put things together. Also, you’ll want to find clues to prove to Valeria, a Hollyphant and investigator on the case, that Brilgor may not have done it. Let’s dive into how you can solve the Open Hand Temple murders in Baldur’s Gate 3.

If you talk to Sister Yannis, she’ll let you know where the bodies of Father Lorgan and Brilgor are. Also, many folks you talk to argue that Brilgor would never do such a thing, so this makes the case even harder to solve.

The best spell to use during this quest is Speak with Dead. Get a spell scroll, or bring along a party member who knows that spell. One of the rooms in this Temple is the Infirmary. Make your way there, and you’ll see Father Lorgan’s body. Casting Speak with Dead allows you to ask only five questions, and you’ll get enough information to tell you that a dwarf with red clothing killed him.

You should also make sure to cast the spell on Brilgor’s body. You can find the body outside in the graveyard, the western side of the building. There, you’ll spot a dirt mound in front of Brilgor’s tombstone. Using a shovel, uncover the wooden casket from the dirt mound, and take out Brilgor’s body. Just drag and drop the body onto the ground from the casket inventory, and cast the spell again. After asking similar questions to Brilgor, you’ll figure out most of the same details.

There’s another good piece of evidence in Father Lorgan’s chest. In the Dormitory, there are multiple beds with their own locked chests. I was able to snatch Lorgan’s chest key from his body with no fuss from the woman keeping watch of him. Then, head to the middle chest, unlock it, and you’ll find his diary. The diary and the questioning of the dead all provide great evidence, but you still need to find out more in the temple cellar.

Where to find the temple cellar in Open Hand Temple

All clues lead to the temple cellar, but where is the entrance? If you head into the Kitchens, you’ll find a hatch on the ground leading to the cellar. There are a few rooms down here, and one of them has to do with the Cursed Monk quest. If you have that quest, you can take care of it in the crypt.

Make your way into the room with the bookshelves. Behind a bookshelf is a broken wall, leading to the next area. Jump over the crumbled stone to get through. Be wary of enemies down here, you’ll want to take them out. After killing the doppelgangers, take a ‘Key with a flower motif’ from one of their pockets.

There’s another quest you can progress further in. Climb down into an area with dead bodies, and on one of them you’ll find Dribbles the Clown. Or, at least his Torso. The ‘Find Dribbles the Clown’ side quest has you finding all of Dribbles’ body parts. Not far from the bodies is the edge of a cliff, and a hole in the ground. Once you take notice of it, inside you’ll find Stillmaker, which is the murder weapon.

You’re officially done in the temple cellar. Once above ground, make your way to Fraygo’s Flophouse. This building is just north of the Open Hand Temple, near the South Span Checkpoint. Unfortunately, you’re stopped on the way through by a Gauntlet. They’re giant robots who are essentially guards throughout Baldur’s Gate. They ask you to pay 200 gold to pass through. No matter which option you choose, some Ironhand Gnomes will distract and attack the guards.

You’re now free to pass by without any fuss. Keep heading forward until you find Fraygo’s Flophouse on the left side of the street. On the second floor, against the eastern wall, you’ll see a ladder. Take the ladder up another floor, and it looks like a normal room. In reality, it isn’t, and if you interact with the large wardrobe, it’ll take you into a hidden room using your flower key.

In this room, you’ll find a desk with a Bloodstained Parchment. This details the murder targets, and the fact that it all has to do with Bhaal, the Lord of Murder. Also, by the bed, you can spot blood stains on the floor, which reveals another body.

Finally, you have all the evidence you need, and you can show everything to Valeria! You can find Valeria right across the street from Fraygo’s Flophouse, inside Sharess’ Caress. Upstairs, you should see Valeria the Hollyphant, and you can speak to her. After showing all the proof, and the fact that it’s a Bhaal plot, she’ll give you a Lower City pass.

That’s all it takes to figure out how to solve the Open Hand Temple murders in Baldur’s Gate 3! Now, you have access to the Lower City, where you can continue a new part of this quest. All across the Lower City are more murder targets marked on your map. Either you can decide to warn them, or you’ll find them already killed.
