Best Dragonite Moveset for Pokemon Go

Don't underestimate the OG Dragon.

Dragonite is one of the most iconic Gen 1 Pokemon and is just as well known in the mainline games as in Pokemon Go. You’d be forgiven for thinking Dragonite isn’t viable, as it’s a pretty old Pokemon nowadays.

Don’t be fooled; this Dragon still knows some tricks, so let me show you the best Dragonite Moveset for Pokemon Go.

Best Dragonite PvE Moveset in Pokemon Go

  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath or Dragon Tail
  • Charged Move: Outrage/Hurricane

It’s a common moveset among dragons, but the attacks above are superb. Dragonite has a chunky ATK stat, so it hits hard even without a type advantage. Outrage will likely be your go-to Charged Move, but Hurricane gives Dragonite some welcome coverage as a solid Flying move.

On top of PvE utility, Dragonite is an excellent choice as a Gym defender, as many players use Fighting Types to dethrone common picks like Snorlax. Adding Dragonite to a Gym often makes conquering it just a little trickier and is worth considering if the usual suspects have already been taken.

Best Dragonite PvP Moveset in Pokemon Go

  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath
  • Charged Move: Dragon Claw/Superpower

Dragonite is a threat in PvP and a popular choice for all leagues. Even if you don’t plan on using Dragonite, you need to know what it brings to the table. The moveset above is a typical combination, but there is room for some spicy tech.

Hurricane is still a good Charged Move and will catch players off-guard. Draco Meteor is another good option, although it’s only worth using when your opponent is out of shields.

Is Dragonite worth using in Pokemon Go?

Dragonite has utility just about everywhere in Pokemon Go. You can use this OG Dragon in many PvE activities, and it’s excellent for wrecking Team Rocket. If PvP battles are more your style, Dragonite is pretty good there as well and is formidable in every league.

It’s important to consider what you’re using Dragonite for, as your moveset will depend on the activity. That said, Dratini is a fairly common spawn and may be plentiful enough for you to train multiple Dragonites.

If you go down this route, it’s a bit of a grind but absolutely worth it.
