Dead Island 2: Should You Sell or Scrap Weapons? Answered

To sell or not to sell?

Dead Island 2 has numerous systems for you to lose yourself in. This can be anything from the weighty combat, all the way to the loot side of the game. You can even go hunting for rare finds like blueprints and fuse boxes. One of the things you’re definitely going to be doing in Dead Island 2 is using weapons, whether that be a burnt piece of timber, or a shotgun to really let the zombies know who’s boss. When it comes to using those weapons, over time, you’ll outgrow them and need to get rid of some of them as you progress in the game. This then begs the question, in Dead Island 2, should you sell or scrap weapons? We’ve answered that question in this guide.

Should you sell or scrap weapons in Dead Island 2?

This question is an essential one to wonder while playing Dead Island 2. There are pros and cons to every option here, and even a third option to weigh up. Let’s dive into it then, starting with selling items in Dead Island 2.

Selling weapons

Selling your weapons seems like an easy favorite on the surface, but it’s a little more complex than that. Weapon selling in Dead Island 2 only gets you cash, which can have short-term benefits like being able to buy another weapon to replace the weapon you’re selling, but can cost you long-term if you end up running out of weapons or disliking the weapon you’ve replaced.

We can recommend selling weapons you don’t use if you need the cash, that much is certain, but maybe you should consider scrapping or upgrading the original weapon before you decide to pawn it off. There’s plenty of money to be found in the world of Dead Island 2, so if you’re in need of some cash but are hesitant to sell weapons, you should go looting before you decide a weapon’s fate.

Scrapping weapons in Dead Island 2

Much like selling weapons, scrapping has the same short-term advantages and long-term disadvantages. Scrapping, however, also has long-term benefits. When you scrap weapons you get various items back from the weapon. These can be useful in the long-term when you need to craft new mods, perks, and items. This is a useful thing to have if you’re in need of items for crafting, but there are also a load of them available in the game world, so you should probably try looting before trying your luck getting the items you want from scrapping your weapons.

The third option: upgrading

If you fall in love with a weapon and want to keep it for the rest of the game, Dead Island 2 actually accommodates this. When you’re at a workbench, not only can you upgrade your weapon with mods and perks, but you can also make a weapon ‘match level’ with you, meaning you can upgrade its damage output to be on par with your current level. This is a brilliant feature if your quandary surrounding whether to scrap or sell is because of your affinity for a weapon, and how best to utilize it after you’re done using it.

Which one?

The answer to that question is in the eye of the beholder—all of them have benefits that you can use to your advantage. If you’re selling a pistol to buy a better pistol, odds are selling might be the best option. If you don’t need the cash, however, scrapping that pistol for a few spare parts isn’t a bad idea either. But if there isn’t a better pistol, or you’ve grown fond of your weapon, you can keep it on par with you as you progress. Every answer is valid, and hopefully laying out the pros and cons of each one has helped you find the answer you need.
