What can books do in Baldur’s Gate 3?

If you were wondering if books can do anything in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’d be correct! They may not have a ton of uses, but books are good for reading lore, starting a quest, or selling for profit. The main thing you can do with books is read them. The actual readable text isn’t too long either, it’s usually only one to three pages of text. Depending on the book, you’ll read a short story, maybe a sea shanty, or even a lore textbook.

Personally, I’d say the lore textbooks are the most useful. If you’re someone who is still new to the Forgotten Realms world of D&D or want to know more about it, definitely read any book you find. One book I found gave me information on the different types of hags, while another taught me about a certain god. Not only can they contain lore, but hints to certain puzzles as well. There was a book I held onto that ended up being quite helpful during a puzzle nearby.

Also, books can sometimes be quest items that enact a new quest or event. All you have to do to trigger it is open it once. If you’re done with a book, a letter, or scroll, you can sell them to a Trader for a decent amount of gold. Most books I’ve found will sell for around 15 gold each.

Overall, you don’t want to miss a single book you come by in Baldur’s Gate 3. I even found one book that was like a bag of holding, and had a dozen or so slots for holding other items. You really never know what you’re going to get when opening a book, so try it out!
