To keep up with the increasing difficulty of your enemies, it is a must to form the best possible team composition with the characters you have unlocked. Honkai: Star Rail features a turn-based combat system, which makes it essential for the players to have proper knowledge about the characters in their party. But, to build the best team, you must know about the characters, their types, and their attacks.  After finding the best synergy and attack coordination, you can develop a strong team composition. Here is our guide on the best team comps in Honkai: Star Rail.

Best team comps in Honkai: Star Rail

You’ll encounter many different situations as you advance through Honkai: Star Rail, which will require teams of various types. The game allows you to save six custom team formations at once so you can switch quickly when needed. Make sure to make the best use of these slots to keep yourself equipped for any kind of situation that you might face throughout the game.

The teams you build first will depend on how lucky you are when it comes to draws. Below are recommendations for two of the very best team comps in Honkai: Star Rail, followed by general advice on forming additional teams.

Best team comp for free-to-play

Similar to other games by HoYoverse, Honkai: Star Rail also makes the players spend some bucks to get good characters. However, if you are not interested in investing anything in this game, you still have some good options to build your team with. The best free-to-play team composition consists of Serval, Dan Heng, Asta, and March 7th. You will unlock these characters for free at a very early stage in the game, so you will get ample time to upgrade these characters before you reach the upper levels of the game.

This comp also allows you to hit enemies of four elements: Lightning, Wind, Fire, and Ice. In this comp, Serval and Dan Heng will take up the DPS role and solely concentrate on dealing as much damage possible on the enemies. While the damage-dealing units lay up their attacks, Asta and March 7th will actively work to give support to the other members of the party by healing or providing them with shields.

Best team comp with premium characters

If you are paying to unlock new five-star characters and have successfully made a large roster of them, you will have very strong options to pick before going into the battles. Like every HoYoverse game, the team compositions made with paid characters will always be better than the free-to-play ones.

Your premium team comp should consist of Seele, Bronya, Bailu, and Asta. The best build for Seele lets her deal significant damage to enemy mobs and also hits bosses hard. The other characters complement that beautifully. Bronya and Asta offer support to maximize the damage inflicted, while Bailu keeps the entire team’s health where it needs to be. This team comp generates extra chances to attack throughout combat, as well. The net effect is devastating to even the most powerful foes.

General Team Comp Advice

The strength of the team composition and the selection of characters is purely subjective to the players. Anyone can make a team composition with their favorite characters and make it a strong one to win battles. In such case, if you want to build your own composition, here is some general advice for you.

Each character in Honkai: Star Rail can be assigned to a specific role while on the battlefield. These roles are generally assigned after evaluating their attacks and base stats. While building a team, make sure to include at least three of the following roles to make your party a strong one.

DPS – You want someone capable of hitting individual units (such as bosses) for high damage.

AoE – Keep someone around who inflicts area damage. That way, you can more quickly get to work on enemy tanks without distractions. It’s also useful for grinding.

Healer or Tank – A healer ensures you’re ready for extended fights and farming sessions. A tank character can safely absorb numerous enemy attacks and is a reasonable second option.

Support – This character ensures your DPS and AoE characters hit harder so that the battle doesn’t last as long.
