Darkrai’s weaknesses and counters in Pokemon GO

Darkrai is a Dark-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak to Fighting, Bug, and Fairy moves.

The best Darkrai counter that most trainers will have access to is Terrakion. You’ll have the best results for Raids with a tanky Pokemon, and Terrakion fits that criteria. As Darkrai is weak to Fighting moves, I recommend the classic combo of Double Kick and Sacred Sword as Terrakion’s moveset.

Another great choice is Lucario. This Steel/Fighting type is deceptively bulky and is a solid choice for a lot of content in Pokemon GOCounter and Aura Sphere is a great combination to make a dent in Darkrai.

If you’ve got access to Mega Evolutions, Mega Blaziken is a superb Pokemon for the Darkrai Raid. For moveset, you can’t go wrong with Counter and Focus Blast.

You can exploit Darkrai’s weakness to Fairies with Gardevoir as an alternative to Fighting types. If you go down this route, Charm and Dazzling Gleam are great moves to do it with.

Are any other Pokemon good against Darkrai?

Any powerful Fighting, Bug, or Fairy types will do well against Darkrai. If you don’t have the Pokemon listed above, here are a few more great choices:

  • Machamp
  • Conkeldurr
  • Pinsir
  • Hariyama
  • Volcarona

The Shadow versions of Machamp, Pinsir, and Hariyama have higher attack values than their regular counterparts and are worth using if you have them.

How many Trainers are required for the Darkrai Raid?

While technically possible with 3-4 Trainers, everyone involved needs to be high-level and use the correct Pokemon. Setting this up should be fine with an organized team, but it’s a different story for public groups.

If you’re playing with random Trainers, I recommend waiting for a group of 6+ players. Raids are usually the busiest the moment they go live, so it’s best to be ready and waiting.

Can Darkrai be Shiny in Pokemon GO?

After defeating Darkrai in a Raid, there’s a slim chance it will be Shiny. There’s not a massive difference between Regular and Shiny Darkrai, and the black of the regular color scheme is swapped out for dark purple. Still, Shiny Legendaries are rare and coveted, so make sure you show it off whenever you can!
