Dave the Diver is one of my favorite games for cutscenes, and that’s a weird thing to say. Usually, in a game, I will be bored half to death by the lazy exposition or long, drawn-out storylines. However, in MINTROCKETS’ wonderful 8-bit masterpiece, I am always left waiting for the next beautifully animated clip. Each new boss has a fantastic animated entrance, introducing itself with thunderous drama. The Truck Hermit Crab in Dave the Diver is no different, and it sure puts the fear into you.
How to beat the Truck Hermit Crab in Dave the Diver
This guy doesn’t mess around. He’s a hermit crab with an entire dump truck for a shell. Your guns are useless here, as is your harpoon, and you can forget about your bug net. To beat the Truck Hermit Crab in Dave the Diver, you’re going to have to get inventive.
To start the fight, you will have to have progressed to chapter three in the story and completed Duff’s Dream. Once you are at this stage, you need to get into a night dive. Sato will approach Dave the Diver and mention some whirlpools in the blue hole. It’s time to strap on your best gear and get ready for a fight. Enter the Whirlpool and face the Truck Hermit Crab.

Truck Hermit Crab attack pattern
The Truck Hermit Crab only has a few attacks against Dave the Diver, but due to its massive size and considerable reach, it still poses a challenge. The first move will slam the ground when the Truck Hermit Crab is close enough. You will need this move for your attack, so bait the attack and move out of the way when you can.
The second attack will throw debris in the air; this will hit Dave the Diver and destroy the barrels he needs to carry for the damage phase.
How to cause damage
Guns don’t work here, so Dave the Diver needs to use his environment. By baiting the Truck Hermit Crab, you can get it to slam the floor. When this happens, barrels will appear on the ground. Once they appear, grab them with the right mouse button and drop them onto the Truck section of the Hermit Crab.
Falling debris and the claws will prematurely explode the barrels if they make contact, so dodge, duck, dive, dip, and dodge around them. After enough barrels are dropped, around 5, the truck will explode, and the Hermit Crab will scuttle away from Dave the Diver.
