Phiomia isn’t the best tamable mount in Ark Survival Ascended, but it’s a good one to experiment on since it’s not too dangerous. However, I do recommend you start taming dinos at level nine since you’ll unlock a lot of good tools to help you tame dinos quickly.

Phiomia mainly spawn in jungles, swamps, and grasslands. I’ve had the most luck finding them on the coast near inland rivers. Phiomia aren’t found in snowy areas, mountains, or by the ocean’s coast.

You’ll have the most luck finding Phiomia in The Writhing Swamps, the rivers in The Southern Islets, and the rivers around The Gulch of Lamentation. Stay clear of Redwood Forests, Red Peak, The Frozen Tooth, The Whitesky Peak, Far’s Peak, and Winter’s Mouth if you want to find Phiomia.

Once you’ve found a Phiomia, you can tame it. Doing so is a process, so bear with me. The good news is once you know how to tame one creature, you’ll know the general steps you need to take to tame them all.

The first step to taming anything in Ark Survival Ascended is to knock it unconscious. I recommend being at least level nine so you get access to the wooden club and bola. You can use a slingshot to knock a dino unconscious at range, but it is a bit harder to do.

Especially if the dino is not aggressive, as is the case with Phiomia, the bola and wooden club strategy works great. First, hit the Phiomia with the bola. This will keep it from running away. Once it’s stuck in one place, bring out your club and hit it on the head until it is knocked unconscious.

Now that the Phiomia is knocked out, you need to feed it berries, which you should have a lot of while scavenging for fiber. Since Phiomia is an herbivore, it eats berries and not meat. If you’re taming a carnivore, you need to feed it meat.

Feed the Phiomia any kind of berry and, with time, the tame meter will go up. When I tame lower-level animals, I need to wait a few minutes for them to eat the berries, so give it time. Make sure no carnivores come by and try to eat you or your Phiomia.

This wasn’t the case for me, but if you’re running out of unconscious meter, which is basically Torpidity, you can feed the unconscious animal narcoberries.

Once the tame meter is full, the Phiomia is now your pet! Craft a Phiomia saddle which unlocks at level five, slap it on your steed, and you’re good to ride it wherever you want. Phiomias aren’t that fast and they don’t have much endurance, but they do provide some good early-game defense when enemy dinos come knocking.
