Tears of the Kingdom – how to get ability to create

Breath of the Wild introduced Link to an expansive, often hostile version of Hyrule and encouraged Link to climb all over it. The abilities new to the sequel allow him to take an even more active role, and to get more from available resources than ever before.

To gain the ability to create in Tears of the Kingdom, make your way to Ukouh Shrine. When you first start your adventure on Great Sky Island, you’ll learn you need to visit three local shrines to build up magical energy in your artificial arm. Ukouh Shrine is the nearest of those shrines. It’s located a short distance uphill from The Closed Door.

When you enter Ukouh Shrine, you meet with Rauru. He gifts you the Ultrahand ability. This exchange also activates a challenge called The Ability to Create. To complete that challenge, you must use your new capabilities to clear a simple shrine.

The Ultrahand ability forms a powerful bond between two or more objects. You can join them just about any way you like and they will stick aggressively, rather than falling apart. To make your way to the end of the shrine, you must use the ability to glue together different components.

At the first wide gap with a ladder, I found it’s easiest to attach two metal sheets end-to-end. You can get more creative, but it’s unnecessary. Later, you must assemble wood and a metal hook to create a platform. Set it up so the hook rests over the wire leading across a wide gap. Once you put your lift in motion, hop onto it quickly and ride to the far side. Unfortunately, you can’t move the platform while standing on it.

If you have trouble clearing the shrine, make sure to check out our full guide on how to solve the Ukouh Shrine puzzle. A lot of what you learn in the shrine feels awkward at first, but it becomes more natural as you rely on the ability to solve subsequent puzzles.
