Pumpkaboo is one of the quintessential Halloween Pokemon. At the time of writing, the spooky season is upon us, and there’s even an event making Pumpkaboo more common than ever. In this guide, I’ll show you how to get Pumpkaboo in Pokemon Go and if it can be shiny. I’ll also explain how to get your mitts on its evolved form, Gourgeist.

How to get Pumpkaboo in Pokemon Go – Can it be Shiny?
Pumpkaboo is enjoying increased spawn rates as part of the Harvest Festival. This event is free for all players and runs until Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 8pm local time. Outside the Harvest Festival, Pumpkaboo can still be found as a random wild spawn, but it’s far less common.
If you want to grab a Pumpkaboo, events in the Fall are usually the best times to do so. Mossy Lures can be used to increase Pumpkaboo spawn rates, but if you’re playing during the Harvest Festival, you should be fine without one. Curiously, Pumpkaboo can show up in different sizes, which affects their stats.
Can Pumpkaboo be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
It’s not one I have in my collection, so I can’t show off with a screenshot. That said, yes, Pumpkaboo can be Shiny in Pokemon Go. Like all Shiny Pokemon, luck is against you if you’re grinding for one yourself. The Harvest Festival is a great time to roll the dice, as Pumpkaboo has an increased spawn rate. Mossy Lures are another great way to increase your odds.
There’s no magic formula to finding Shiny Pokemon other than catching as many as you can and keeping your fingers crossed. I’ve read that, much like Monster Hunter, if you pretend you don’t want something, it’ll show up. I can’t say I’ve had much luck with this technique in Pokemon GO.
How to get Gourgeist in Pokemon Go
Gourgeist is the evolved form of Pumpkaboo, and there are a couple of ways to get one. The first evolution method is the traditional candy route. It costs 200 Pumpkaboo candy to evolve, so ensure you get one with good stats.
If you don’t want to spend that horrific amount of Candy, you can obtain Gourgeist as part of a Trade Evolution. If a Pumpkaboo is traded, it becomes Gourgeist when it arrives with its new owner.
Just like Pumpkaboo, Gourgeist can be Shiny and is the ultimate prize for a Halloween-loving Pokemon Trainer.
