LEGO Fortnite Compost Bin explained: How to make Biomass, Fertilizer, and Soil

A great way to spend your excess bones

LEGO Fortnite has finally added items to make powered and steerable vehicles. Biomass is a crucial ingredient in getting your creations to move. With this in mind, let me show you how to get the Compost Bin and Biomass in LEGO Fortnite.

If you’re a returning player, you may have to interact with your Lumber Mill for the Compost Bin craft to appear. I constructed some Wooden Planks, and the recipe for the Compost Bin was unlocked straight after. Some players have reported having to remove their Lumber Mill and rebuild it for the Compost Bin craft to unlock, so try this if using the Mill doesn’t work.

As a new player, you’ll need to construct a Lumber Mill from scratch, costing 8 Wood and 15 Granite. Once you have the Compost Bin available, it can be made with the following ingredients:

  • 5 Planks
  • 2 Soil
  • 1 Sand
  • 3 Fertilizer

Small animals frequently drop Fertilizer, so resist the urge to kill everything you see if you need to stock up. You can dig up Soil and Sand with a Shovel. The latter can be tricky to obtain as you can only get it from the Dry Valley or Beach Biome, but as every map is randomly generated, it might be a fair distance from your base.

If you’re unsure what Biome you’re in, you can always check the map, as your location is labeled in the bottom-left corner.

Once you have every item on the list above, you can place the Compost Bin anywhere you wish. I like to keep all of my crafting stations in the same place for easy access, but there’s no ‘wrong’ way to set up your base.

The Compost Bin works like any other Crafting Station and converts raw materials into new items.

Biomass is easy to obtain, as you can get it by adding items to the Compost Bin. You can use berries, but Composting is a great way to dispose of Bones. Skeletons typically attack at night, so you’ll always have a healthy supply.

You can place several items in a queue for your Compost Bin. Just remember that composting takes several minutes, so it will take a while to amass a decent amount. In addition to Biomass, the Compost Bin also makes Soil and Fertilizer.

When you interact with Biomass for the first time, you’ll also unlock the Power Cell craft.

LEGO Fortnite is a great way to earn XP, and this update adds enough content to make the mode well worth revisiting. If you’re new to LEGO Fortnite, there’s no PVP to worry about, and it offers a welcome break from the Battle Royale.
