How to play workshop maps in CS2

Is there a way to play custom workshop maps in CS2?

In CS:GO, players could download and install custom-made workshop maps that ranged from being competitive new maps to strictly fun maps. Now that CS:GO is officially gone, players are wondering if you can play workshop maps in CS2.

How to play custom workshop maps in CS2.

The issue with custom workshop maps in Counter-Strike 2 is that they use Source 2 engine which is an upgrade from CS:GO’s engine. Because of that, it’s impossible to quickly port over old workshop maps and community servers.

You can still play workshop maps and custom servers in CS2, but it’ll take more time for communities to reform and recreate. In the meantime, you can stay ahead of the curve by preparing yourself for when CS2 workshops are available.

Install CS2 workshop tools

To do so, you need to install the Counter-Strike 2 Workshop Tools. In Steam, right-click CS2 and go to Properties. Then, go to the DLC section and download the Counter-Strike 2 Workshop Tools.

Once that is done, launch the game. Now that you’re in CS2, go to the settings and then the Game section. Make sure the “Install Counter-Strike Workshop Tools” says yes.

Manually install CS2 custom workshop maps

So far, there’s no easy way to automatically search for workshop maps, download them, and play them. For now, you need to do this complicated process to download and play workshop maps in CS2.

Here are the steps you need to take to play workshop maps in CS2:

  1. Find a CS2 workshop map you want to play.
  2. Open the CS2 maps file by following this path: Steam > steamapps > common > Counter-Strike Global Offensive > game > core > maps
  3. Paste the map file into this folder.
  4. Launch CS2
  5. Use console commands to open the map. To do this, enter the command “map %map_name%” but change the “map_name” part to whatever the name of the custom map file is.
  6. Enter the command and you’ll enter the workshop map.

Hopefully, Valve updates CS2 soon so that getting into custom servers and workshop maps is much easier.
