  1. Open your Start Menu and search for %appdata%.
  2. Open this folder and open the Stardew Valley folder it should simply be called StardewValley.
  3. Inside this folder, locate the next folder named Saves.
  4. In this, you will find a folder named after your farm. Just to be safe, copy this folder and paste it to your desktop as a backup in case something goes wrong.
  5. In your farm folder, locate the file named after your farm and open it. It will be a huge mess of words and code. Don’t panic. You don’t need to read it.
  6. Press CTRL+F and type in the name of your pet.
  7. This will bring up a string of text that looks like this <NPC xsi:type =”Cat”><name>petname</name>
  8. Simply replace the part with your pet’s name with whatever you would like to change it to. For example, if you are looking for your Stardew Valley 1.6 Turtle or Dog, simply replace the pet type with either of those and change their name.
  9. Once you have changed the pet’s name in the Stardew Valley 1.6 code, save and exit. When you boot the game back up they will be renamed.
