Finding armor in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of more satisfying things to do. Whether you find new armor out and about, hunt it down using Old Maps, or simply buy it in a store, you can find your new favorite set just about anywhere. The key to making your favorite aesthetic or set bonus last with you until endgame though is to upgrade your armor. But how do you even do that? Here’s our guide on how to upgrade armor in Tears of the Kingdom.
How do you upgrade armor in Tears of the Kingdom
The way you upgrade your armor in Tears of the Kingdom is by visiting Great Fairy Fountains. There are a few Great Fairy Fountains around Hyrule, and you can upgrade your armor at any of them. As you unlock more Great Fairy Fountains, you can increase the level you’re able to upgrade your armor to.
Each Great Fairy Fountain has a method of unlocking them, usually revolving around the Stable Trotters playing music to serenade the Great Fairy. We have guides on a couple of the Great Fairy Fountain unlocks, which you can check out below.
The quests to unlock these Great Fairies usually revolve around finding one of the members of the Stable Trotters. For example, you might need to find someone who plays a horn, and it turns out that person just so happens to be stuck in a hole, which you need to help him out of.
Once you unlock a Great Fairy for yourself, you can then upgrade your armor in Tears of the Kingdom. Upgrading your armor is pretty simple in theory, but it requires some knowledge of the game world, or a quick search online. You need certain materials to upgrade armor, meaning you’ll have to hunt for certain resources in the game world. Further meaning you can be spending a while getting things before you’re able to upgrade your armor. If you’ve been collecting things as you go along though, you should be able to get a few upgrades under your belt, but some of the sets require very specific things.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for purchase from the Nintendo Store.
