Helldivers 2: Is single-player fun?
I’m gonna be honest, Helldivers 2 isn’t really built for solo play. Both narratively and gameplay-wise, Helldivers 2 leans heavily into multiplayer. All the Helldivers 2 propaganda show a team of soldiers working together. This is mirrored in the gameplay: Multiplayer is much more fun and enjoyable.

I’ve played a handful of missions solo in Helldivers 2 and they have been fun. However, at around difficulty level 4, playing solo becomes nigh impossible. Hellivers 2 gets extremely difficult very quickly and the difficulty doesn’t scale based on how many people are in your party. Because of that, single-player is brutal.
Of course, if you want to stick to playing difficulty levels one through three solo, you’ll have a great time in Helldivers 2. The only problem with this is that the fun missions with increasingly big and powerful enemies are locked behind higher difficulties. Some people play Helldivers 2 solo on insanely high difficulties, but they’re the exception. Trust me, as a self-proclaimed gamer, Helldivers 2 solo is too hard to be fun.
Instead of playing Helldivers 2 solo, I’d recommend engaging with the matchmaking to play online. In the beginning, Helldivers 2 had notoriously bad matchmaking, but playing online is getting easier thanks to Arrowhead Games updating their servers. Playing multiplayer, whether with friends or randoms online, is the best way to enjoy Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 is playable solo, but it’s much more fun in multiplayer. Accidentally dropping an orbital laser on your teammates which was supposed to land on a massive swarm of bugs is part of the Helldivers 2 experience you can’t get playing singe-player. If you still can’t convince your friends to play Helldivers 2, you might have more luck looking at other amazing co-op games like Helldivers 2.
