Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: How to craft False Swipe TM – Recipe and materials guide

False Swipe helps catch 'em all!

False Swipe is an invaluable move to any Pokémon player since it’s a potent tool for catching desirable Pokémon. False Swipe is a physical normal type move that will never bring a targeted Pokémon’s HP below one, forcing it to faint. Keeping a target’s health as low as possible without causing it to faint is an excellent strategy when hunting for Legendary, shiny, or competitively viable Pokémon. Here’s our recipe and materials guide on how to craft False Swipe TM in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Unlocking the False Swipe TM

Before you can craft the False Swipe TM in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you first need to unlock it. Unlike previous Pokémon games, the False Swipe TM is not found in the overworld but bestowed upon you by an NPC — your Biology teacher at the Uva Academy, Mr. Jacq. Before he can give you the TM, you need to meet specific criteria.

The criterion is that you must have attended his class at least once. You can do this by heading to the Academy in Mesagoza and speaking to the front desk. Select ‘Take a Class,’ then ‘Biology.’ You have to listen to Jacq give a spiel, and then he’ll ask you a few questions. You will be rewarded for correctly answering, but the class is unrelated to the False Swipe TM. After attending at least one class, open your school map and head back to the Biology room.

Jacq will be in there by himself, and you can talk to him. He will task you with adding a certain number of entries in your Pokédex, and will reward you at certain milestones for doing so. Your first reward will come when you’ve caught 30 Pokémon and added them to the Pokédex. Go out into the world and catch 30 Pokémon if you haven’t already, then return to Jacq. His first reward for the 30 dex entries is a set of False Swipe TMs.

Crafting the False Swipe TM

Once Jacq gives them to you, you will also be able to craft the False Swipe TM. You can craft the False Swipe and other TMs by heading to any Pokémon Center and using the TM Machine. You will need three Chewtle Claws, three Kricketot Shells, and 400 League Points for each False Swipe TM you’d like to craft. Chewtle and its evolved form, Dreadnaw, can be found near water in Paldea. They’re pretty common, so check bodies of water until you have enough claws. You can find Kricketot at the olive field in South Province (Area Two).
