Slay the Princess: Spectre walkthrough

The ghost of your past actions comes back to haunt you. Can you reconcile or kill her again?

The Spectre chapter of Slay the Princess deals with the haunting implications of trusting the Narrator. Now we’re going to cover the entirety of the Slay the Princess Spectre walkthrough.

Killing the Princess but refusing the Narrator’s reward leaves a Princess who’s not quite dead. Can you possibly earn her forgiveness after such an act, or is it even possible to kill her again?

Slay the Princess The Spectre full guide: Chapter one

The Spectre route has only one way to it. You have to take the knife, refuse to talk to the Princess, tighten your grip, and then immediately slay the Princess when the option first presents itself. After killing her, don’t doubt your victory. Insist she’s dead. After that, don’t accept the Narrator’s reward. Listen to the Voice of the Hero and slay yourself with the knife.

This chain of events brings you to the Spectre route.

Chapter two: The Spectre walkthrough

The cabin is now akin to a decaying haunted house. You have a lot of dialogue options in this chapter, but it’s your final actions that matter. For this chapter, the outcomes are as follows:

  • Slay the Princess: You can’t. She will get mad at you and crush your heart, leading to The Wraith.
  • Repeatedly try to touch the Princess: Ditto.
  • Leave her behind: She also kills you.
  • Let her possess you and then try to Slay the Princess: You get her out of you, and The Shifting Mound claims the Spectre.
  • Let her possess you and leave the cabin: You do so successfully, and The Shifting Mound claims the Spectre.

So if you didn’t let the Princess possess you, your other outcome leads to…

Chapter three: The Wraith

Upon entering the cabin, the Princess breaks your ankle and demands once more to possess you. You have two Explore options before she does so. You can also just let her do so immediately, or you can struggle. As long as you didn’t agree to free her, you have the option to throw your body into the abyss instead of leaving the cabin with her. But whether you free her or resist, The Shifting Mound claims her.

In total, there are only two Princess vessels from the Spectre route, one if you already claimed the Wraith through the alternative path. You didn’t get to kill a ghost, but you did get to witness the Princess interacting with your Voices, which is worth the possession in my opinion.
