Ideal options

  • Smite Discipline
    • Smite – Single-target hit for 3 damage.
    • Warp Charge – Activate to give this skill armor-piercing capabilities.
  • Fury Discipline
    • Fury of the Ancients – Unleash a spread attack in a frontal cone that does 6 damage and knockback.
    • Warp Charge – +6 damage.
    • Upgrade: Range – +3 range.
    • Willpower – +3 WP.
  • Melee Weapons
    • Ruthless Precision – Melee crits have a 50% chance to restore +1 AP.
    • Upgrade: Crit – +10% crit rate.

  • Defend Discipline
    • Only In Death – When this unit suffers a critical wound, cancel it and restore to 1 HP; can trigger once per mission.
    • Upgrade: Area – +1 area.
    • Upgrade: Armor – +1 armor.
    • Warp Charge – +3 armor.
  • Hammerhand Discipline
    • Hammerhand – Strike a target to deal 4 damage; 110% crit.

Preferred loadout and battlefield role

  • Weapons – Any Warding Stave that provides a bonus/proc to Aegis Shield. For the ranged slot, use a Storm Shield with high armor.
  • Armor – Any Terminator Armor that grants a bonus to armor or crit chance.
  • Wargear – Any item that grants a bonus to armor or crit chance.

Think of the Paladin class in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters as a beefier version of the Justicar. This is due to having access to both Aegis Shield and the Defend ability (if you have a Storm Shield equipped). For Aegis Shield, a Warding Stave with the right perks would help boost it. Defend, meanwhile, is reinforced using the perks mentioned above.

For the most part, this tank will soak the hits as other units try to get in position. More often than not, you’ll simply make do with melee bouts and the occasional Hammerhand for seed gathering and executions. But, if you do spot numerous clustered mobs, you can annihilate them with the devastating Fury of the Ancients.
