What does the Loud Horn do in Lethal Company?

Surely something loud is a detriment, right?

In Lethal Company, your credits matter. If you’re apprehensive about buying the Loud Horn due to how expensive it is, then allow me to explain its purpose.

The Loud Horn in Lethal Company

You may see the Loud Horn listing on the Ship Upgrades list and wonder why you would possibly need such a thing. Especially as you’ll want to remain silent and hidden from the numerous sound-sensitive denizens on the moons. It costs 150 credits and is listed clearly in the shop list for you to buy.

The Loud Horn, once purchased, allows players to communicate from the ship to other players no matter their distance. That’s right, walkie-talkies be damned, as you’ll have access to an omnipresent crewmate no matter where they go.

This has obvious communication advantages, as warnings can be yelled out across the moon and players have no excuse to ignore them. However, the most pressing concern from players will be the noise. If it can reach anywhere on the map, then surely all the other beasts and creatures can hear it, too.

Only creatures close to the ship will notice the Loud Horn, and they’ll react differently. If they’re like the Eyeless Dogs, and are attracted by noises, they’ll come running to the front of the ship. Otherwise, they’ll get scared and scamper off when the horn blares.

Having sound-sensitive enemies being attracted to the front of the ship can be an advantage, as it distracts them from the other players as they filter into the ship and seal the door.

Should you buy the Loud Horn in Lethal Company?

It certainly has its uses, but it is essentially an over-glorified one-way walkie-talkie. Thankfully, it isn’t too expensive compared to other Ship Upgrades, but at the same time, it’s a lot of money that could be instead used for much-needed equipment.

I would say the Loud Horn is a low-priority purchase. It does certainly have its uses, as distracting and scaring enemies away from the ship does make evacuations and escapes a lot safer. Although, as is with anything in Lethal Company, adequate preparation and due process will prevent such emergency situations.

So, don’t worry if you’ve been ignoring it — it’s not worth losing any sleep over. But do keep it in mind as a potential tool for those specific situations.
