Tears of the Kingdom – where to find the Summerwing Butterfly

The Summerwing Butterfly is worth finding because it provides Cold Resistance when added to recipes alongside monster parts. More importantly, though, you need to find it to upgrade your Ember armor set.

To find the Summerwing Butterfly, look in warm climates. The in-game information suggests looking in Eldin Canyon. I also find it in the northeastern portions of Hyrule, near Death Mountain and Deep Akkala.

The above map shows one location where you should be able to commonly locate the Summerwing Butterfly. I usually find two of them near a large rock. Warm Darners and Fireproof Lizards are also fairly common in this area.

You can also sometimes locate the butterflies on high slopes in the Gerudo Highlands. Make sure to equip armor with resistance to extreme heat if you plan to explore areas in the desert and hills around Gerudo Town in search of butterflies (or anything else). In any location where you approach the butterfly, do so while crouched. Otherwise, it will fly away before you get close enough to catch it. You don’t have a net, after all.

Totk Summerwing Butterfly Buying From Beedle Tabantha Bridge Stable

If you’re simply not having luck purchasing the Summerwing Butterfly, you can also purchase it. Beedle, the traveling merchant who tours the world’s stables, will sell it for 10 rupees. He carries a maximum of three at once. You can meet him near the Snowfield Stable and near Tabantha Bridge Stable to invest. Remember that his wares change depending on his current location, so don’t expect to find them available when you meet him near other stables.

You also can find Beedle along the edge of Kara Kara Bazaar, where I’ve seen him sell as many as five of the butterflies at a time.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for purchase from the Nintendo Store.
